Rafael Nadal reaches the 3rd round French Open by defeating Richard Gasquet

Famous tennis player Rafael Nadal showed no pity to his Frenchman opponent Richard Gasquet as he defeated him to reach the 3rd round of the 2021 French open. Rafael has been the Roland Garros champion thirteen times, and he demolished his long-time pal for the seventeenth time in a professional encounter. The match was held on Thursday night and was played in an empty Phillipe Chartier stadium because of the 9 pm curfew due to the pandemic.

The GOAT faced a little bit of resistance and difficulty in his second-round match against Gasquet, had breezing to a 6-0, 7-5, 6-2 triumph at Roland Garros. Nadal struggled with the placements of his serve but managed to be the beck to beck winner of matches in straight sets, and all thanks go to his strong efforts in returning.

“I think I played a great first set, one of the best of the clay-court season, in my opinion. No mistakes, high intensity, winners, playing long,” said Nadal to the reporters.

He also went on to say, “Positive feelings. Of course, it would be better to play with a crowd, but for the rest, I think for most of the match, I played a very good level of tennis.”

Richard Gasquet only managed nine points in the opening set and went on to lose seven games in a row. He was overwhelmed by Nadal’s topspin and forehands down the line. He faced 16 breakpoints due to Nadal’s swift and crisp movements. The Frenchman won 31 percent of his second-serve changes. He also double-faulted four times himself. Gasquet had reached the peak of his career in 2007 when he put up a fight in the second set, but even then, he could not shake Nadal and remained the second best.

Gasquet jogged to a 5-4 lead with a fantastic service return, but Nadal managed to earn another break in the 12th game, which made him take the two-set lead. After that, Gasquet became relaxed and overwhelmed and delivered some delightful backhands. Still, Rafael Nadal broke for a 4-2 in the decider as his challenger began to run out of steam, and he never looked back to set up a meeting again with British Cameron Norrie.

Nadal dropped a set here since he last beat Dominic Thiem in 2019 final. He has improved his Roland Garros record to a mind-blowing 102-2. Richard Gaquiet’s defeat has ended a woeful tournament for the French people as he was the local favorite who was still standing. This means that no French male or female tennis player will play in the 3rd round of the 2021 French Open Tournament at Roland Garros for the first time since tennis became a professional sport in 1968. This is the first time since Wimbledon 2007 that no local French player will be playing in the third round of their home Grand Slam.

As opposed to this, Rafael Nada has made his country, Spain, proud.
