Euro 2021: Spain Coach Urges Police to Handle Threats to Alvaro Morata

Spain Football coach Luis Enrique has urged police to look into the matter of threats being made to Alvaro Morata, the striker, and his family at the time of the European Championship. He described the treatment that the striker was facing and said it was a serious crime. Before and during the tournament, the striker was heavily booed by his side supporters. Moreover, the crowd shouted at him by saying that they hope his children die.

Before the last 16 games of Spain against Croatia in Copenhagen, the coach told the reporters that the threat was very severe and police should deal with this matter. He further said that threatening anyone, especially towards the family as well as children, is a huge crime. Alvaro Morata told his friends were constantly alerting him about the abuse he got on social media. This even led him to leave the phone outside his room. After the Slovakia game where he missed a penalty, he had several sleepless nights, he said.

Threats Towards Family Cannot be Accepted

Spain midfielder Koke completely agreed that there should be some action taken against the perpetrators. He said that as players, they are exposed to all sorts of criticism, but they cannot accept any threats about the children and family. He further added that every person is responsible for his/her own sayings, and he/she need to denounce the harassment acts. Involvement of family and children is like crossing the line and requires to be denounced.

Spain Performance

After winning a match in its three group matches in Seville, the nation can expect an improved surface at Parken Stadium of Copenhagen and may face less pressure from its own supporters. On the other hand, Croatia will not have its experienced forward Ivan Perisic and will be playing without him due to testing positive for Covid-19. Koke described this as a huge loss for Croatia but not definitive. However, Croatians will count on Luka Modric, who is an amazing midfielder in Croatia.

Koke said that everyone knows Luka Modric, who has done excellent work with Real Madrid and has won the Ballon d’Or. Midfield is the main asset of Croatia, and it is going to be a major battle in the center of the pitch. He added that they would have to pay great attention to Modric and ensure that the opponents see the ball very little. He further added that the team wants to create many chances and score goals.
